December TBR | Blogmas Day 2

Welcome to Blogmas Day 2!

Today I’m doing my TBR for the month… I never do TBRs because I can never stick to them. Let’s hope I actually can this time. There’s quite a few books I want to squeeze in before the end of the year, but unfortunately, I have deadlines in January so I won’t be able to read tons. I’ll try and make this TBR realistic haha.

Wrapped Up in You by Talia Hibbert

Wrapped Up In You - Talia Hibbert

I love Talia Hibbert and I’ve wanted to read a festive book literally every year and I never get around to it. I’m finally doing! PLUS, I’m actually reading it for Maddy’s (MissMaddyChats) Book Club; BookyChats! I will also be reviewing it once I finish, so look out for that.

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black, Rovina Cai | Waterstones

This book is so stunning. It’s actually my current read but I thought I’d mention it anyway!

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue Export Edition

I have seen nothing but amazing things about this, I need to pick it up. I have been meaning to read more Schwab for ages now, I’m starting with this!

Dance of Thieves by Mary E Pearson

Dance of Thieves (Dance of Thieves, #1) by Mary E. Pearson

I’ve been wanting to read this for like a year now. I’m going to finally pick it up this month. I loved The Remnant Chronicles and cannot wait to be back in that world!

…If I read anything more than this, that would be amazing, but I don’t want to set myself up for failure so this is all I am anticipating reading!

What’s on your TBR this month? Are you trying to cram in as many reads as possible?

The End of the Year Book Tag 2020

Hey guys!
Hope you’re all doing well!
Today I’m doing The End of the Year Book Tag, I’ve seen this flying about and thought I’d do it too.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I always finish books I start within a month, so I don’t really have any.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I feel like The Invisible Life of Addie Larue would be a great transition book!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: Amazon.co.uk: V.E. Schwab: 9781785652509: Books

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

I don’t think so… I haven’t been keeping up with new releases.
Let me know if there are any December releases I should look out for!

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

The Burning White by Brent Weeks
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
Dance of Thieves by Mary E Pearson.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

Possibly Addie Larue?
I’ve heard some mixed things about it. People either seem to really love it or really hate it. I like everything I’ve read by Schwab so far, so I’m hopeful!

Have you already started making reading plans for 2021?
Kind of. But not really for the first half of 2021.
I’m in my final year of university and so I’ll be crazy busy until I finish in May/June. I cannot wait to be done and completely free to read whatever I want!!

What book do you want to read before the year ends?

Leave a link if you’ve done this tag too!
Also let me know your thoughts on any of the books I’ve mentioned.

Recent/Upcoming Fantasy/Sci-fi Books by Black Authors on My TBR

black-sfff

Hey guys!
I’m trying to diversify my TBR and in light of the BLM I have been exposed to so many books I hadn’t previously heard about! Some of these have been on my TBR a while and some are new additions.

Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender

Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender

I have the audiobook for this and I’m excited to get to it soon! I have so many audiobooks this month, I think it’s going to have to wait until July/August.

The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter

The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter | Hachette UK

I have been meaning to read this since it came out. I wanted to wait for the paperback, as it would be cheaper but then I ended up liking the cover for the hardback better… Now it’s out of stock. *sigh*

The City We Became by N.K Jemisin

The City We Became (The Great Cities Trilogy): Amazon.co.uk ...

I have yet to read a Jemisin book… I know shame on me. I own two of her books already so I will be reading them soon. I really like the sound of this one! All her books sound so unique and cool, cannot wait to get to them!

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

Amazon.com: The Sound of Stars (9781335911551): Dow, Alechia: Books

I love sci-fi yet I don’t read enough of it. I especially don’t read much diverse sci-fi, which I definitely need to amend that! The premise sounds interesting, so I’m hopeful!
Side note – the cover is gorgeous!

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

Cinderella Is Dead: Kalynn Bayron: Bloomsbury YA

I got rejected for the NetGalley arc so I’ll have to wait for this to be released. [sad face]
I love retellings!! I need more retellings in my life, always. Cinderella is not as retold often, so I’m eager to see this version!

Here’s two audiobooks I listened to recently, I recommend giving them a listen.
Both are fantasy-ish but have really important themes and messages in them. They’re must reads, in my opinion.

*Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown

*The Deep by Rivers Soloman

Hi guys!
Happy June!

May wasn’t the best reading month for me, I had finals and my mental health was suffering. I didn’t manage to read as much as I wanted but I still read a few. I’ll keep the wrap up portion pretty short, I won’t discuss each book in this post, I will link my reviews if you wish to know my thoughts!

Firstly, I listened to the audiobook of Sofia Khan is Not Obliged by Ayisha Malik

Currently reading:
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas – After having to put this down for over a week I want to get back into this and finish it.

June TBR

With everything going on with the #BlackLivesMatter movement, I’ve decided to prioritise Black authors this month so I can promote their books as much as possible. I have loads of books by Black authors I haven’t read so I will be trying to get through as many as possible this month!

Definite reads:

Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

Let Me Hear a Rhyme - Audiobook | Listen Instantly!(Audiobook)

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)I’d never heard of this book before seeing it on my library’s app; it was available right away so I borrowed it. The premise sounds intriguing and it is by a Black author, so perfect!

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

Black Brother, Black Brother (Audio Download): Jewell Parker ...

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

Another audiobook from my library. I requested this when it first came out last month and I’m still waiting for it to be available but it estimates June 24th, so hopefully, I’ll manage to finish it before June ends!

*Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Amazon.com: Take a Hint, Dani Brown: A Novel (The Brown Sisters ...
NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

Sequel to Get a Life, Chloe Brown.

I am blessed that I have a NetGalley arc of this! I LOVED the first one (which I kinda wanna reread it before this?!) I cannot wait to read this one! This is one of my highly anticipated reads of 2020. I know it’s going to be a goodie!
(Plus, hello faking dating trope!)

This is LGBT+ – perfect for pride month!
It features a HIV positive character, which I’ve never read about before, I’m looking forward to learning more about it.

Some other Black authored books I own that are potential reads:

The Fifth Season by N.K Jemisin
Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
The Good Luck Girls by Charlotte Nicole Davis
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
Slay by Brittney Morris
The Book of Phoenix by Nnedi Okorafor
Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender (Audiobook)
Daughters of Nri by Reni K. Amayo (Audiobook)
The Killing Moon by N.K. Jemisin

Would love to know your thoughts on any of these if you’ve read them!

Star Wars TBR | May the 4th

Star-Wars-tbr

Happy Star Wars Day!

As a huge Star Wars fan I, of course, had to celebrate May the 4th with a Star Wars-themed post. I have already done the Star Wars Book Tag, so I thought I’d change it up this year. Today I’m going to be sharing the books I want to read from the new canon!

Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray

Master and Apprentice (Star Wars): Amazon.co.uk: Gray, Claudia ...

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

You cannot go wrong with Claudia Gray. Out of the few books I’ve read from the new canon, hers have by far been the best. I’m not normally a prequel fan, the films are memes, let’s be real but I’m willing to read anything Claudia writes in the SW universe.

Star Wars: Resistance Reborn by Rebecca Roanhorse

Resistance Reborn Star Wars: Amazon.co.uk: Roanhorse, Rebecca ...

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

I think all the books I’ve read in the SW canon have been set before the new trilogy, so I definitely need to remedy that! I love these characters and I’m interested to see what this will add to the films.

Queen’s Shadow by E. K. Johnston

Star Wars: Queen's Shadow: Amazon.co.uk: E. K. Johnston: Books

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

Yes, I did just say I didn’t really like the prequels but I do like Padme. I’m definitely interested in getting more background and characterisation from this book. Plus, that cover! So pretty.

Princess Leia by Mark Waid

Star Wars: Princess Leia by Mark Waid

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

This has been on my TBR forever! I only got into graphic novels last year, so now I feel like it’s finally time to read it. I was put off before as I’d never really enjoyed graphic novels but after reading Saga last year I am now a fan.

Star Wars the High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray

The High Republic: Into the Dark | Wookieepedia | Fandom

NicePng_goodreads-png_2331558 (1)

Another Claudia Gray…
I actually don’t know much about this one, I like Claudia Gray and I like Jedi’s so that’s good enough for me.

Currently Reading/ April TBR

Hello everyone!
Thought I’d do a little reading update today, I don’t usually set tbrs but there are some books I really want to get to this month. Plus I thought I’d talk about what I’m currently reading etc…

Currently reading:

Goddess of the Hunt by Shelby EileenGoddess of The Hunt eBook: Shelby Eileen: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle StoreThis is a poetry collection, I’ve seen it around Instagram and since I love Greek Myth I thought I’d give it ago. I’m not usually a poetry person but I’ve been wanting to try it more and read out of my comfort zone. So far, it’s okay, I’m not hugely in love with it but it’s an enjoyable read.

TBR

Knock Three Times by Cressida Cowell
The Wizards of Once: Knock Three Times Audiobook by Cressida ...

I have been waiting SO long for this to come into my library’s catalogue, I listened to the first two on audio and wanted to continue in the format.
The narrator is David Tennant. Need I say more?
He is INCREDIBLE. These books are so much fun, I cannot wait to finally listen to this!

The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg

The Kingdom: Amazon.co.uk: Rothenberg, Jess: 9781509899388: Books

Someone from twitter kindly sent me this from my Amazon wishlist back in December and I have been dying to read it ever since. I will finally be reading it this month!

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City): Amazon.co.uk: Maas ...
This is maybe… I really, really want to read this but I know it will take over my life and I have essays to write. I also want to enjoy it as much as possible and don’t want my essay stress to hinder my enjoyment. I hope to at least start this, this month.

Have you read any of these? Let me know your thoughts!

Books I Wish I Read in 2019 | Blogmas Day 10

blogmas-2019

Welcome to Day 10 of Blogmas!
Today I’m going to talk about the books I wish (should’ve) I read in 2019. Hopefully, this will inspire me to actually pick up these books. I’ve had some on my tbr for ages or some were anticipated releases I just haven’t read yet.

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Image result for Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

I literally preordered this book and it came out in 2018 and I still haven’t read it. I reallllllllly need to get to this in 2020. I enjoyed the first book and yet still haven’t picked this one up. *Facepalm*

The Burning White by Brent Weeks
Image result for The Burning White by Brent Weeks
I planned to read this in December but life got way too busy and I didn’t want the enjoyment to be affected by my stress. I will definitely be reading this in January when I’m done with my finals!

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

Another book that I just don’t have time to enjoy. I want to love this book so reading it while I’m stressing over finals would probably kill that enjoyment. Hopefully, I’ll get around to it ASAP!

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

Image result for The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

I really wanted to finish this trilogy but alas I don’t even own the book. I’ve read the first two, had an arc of The Cruel Prince, really enjoyed it. I got The Wicked King when it came out… didn’t like it. Very unpopular opinion but it was boring as hell. I’m not sure why I’m continuing but I feel like I might as well finish the series now.

What book do you really need to get to in 2020?

Books · WWW Wednesday

A Very Austen WWW Wednesday | 9/10/2019

WWW-Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

This week’s post is very Austen centred. I have been mainly Jay Kristoff focused in the last god knows how many WWW Wednesday’s I’m glad to be featuring something else!
I started my second year of university last week and this semester I’m doing a whole module on Jane Austen. There’s going to be an abundance of her appearing over the next month as I read most of her books.

If you didn’t know already, WWW Wednesday is hosted on Taking on a World of Words. It’s a super simple meme, you just answered the three W questions.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading
What do you think you’ll read next?
Recently Finished:

Teenage Writings by Jane Austen

Image result for teenage writings jane austen

This was odd. It was quite a drag to read but it was for uni so I had to read it to be able to study it. It’s not something I ever would’ve picked up for fun.

Currently Reading:

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff (still)

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Reading Next:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This will be a reread for me, I read this last year, I think. I’m excited to revist this book and study it in detail!

I am also want to pick up: Saga Vol 3 by Brian K. Vaughan + Fiona Staples

Image result for saga vol 3
I have a loooot of reading for class, hence why I haven’t finished Darkdawn yet, so I thought a graphic novel would be a good idea to pick up next. It’s quick and easy to read and I have been dying to continue this series: It’s incredible!
The first two are on *Kindle Unlimited, worth signing up for a trial purely for them!
