Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Rainy Day Reads

1) Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

Fantasy is my go-to genre, whatever the weather/time of year, but I think Red Sister would be the perfect rainy day read. I don’t know why but I imagined this world to be quite dark and grey – not sure if that’s actually correct but that’s the impression I got.

Badass, assassin nuns and a kinda magic-school setting; you need this in your life.

2) Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Image result for vicious new coverThis is THE perfect rainy day read. It’s dark, all about morally grey characters and the perfect friends-to-enemies plot line. It’s like a darker x-men story. It’s beyond cool.

3)  Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

Would it really be a recommendations list without some Brandon Sanderson?! I always find a way to put his books on any list.

Elantris was a radiant, magical city once before magic failed, now it’s dull, grey and lifeless. I think this would make a great rainy day read, this is a fantasy but it’s not action based so it can be quite slow. It is very interesting and intriguing; I’ve read this twice and I still love the plot and characters!

4) Cinder by Marissa Meyer

If you want something fun yet exciting, this is the one for you. It’s such a great book, fast to get through and the rest of the series is amazing too!
It’s a sci-fi Cinderella retelling with cyborgs and a dystopian world – what more do you want?

5) Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Thought I should probably include something contemporary too. If you’re looking for something that’ll cheer you up, this is the one! I read this in one sitting. It’s such a cute book and I was smiling constantly throughout. This would be such a nice book to read if you need something happy.

Comment below and recommend me a rainy day read!

5 Reasons You Should Read Villains by V.E. Schwab!

2018-09-22 12.37.23 3.jpg

Hey guys!
Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I’ve been super busy.
I’m going to try posting more soon, hopefully, I’ll have more time/ can get more organised!

1) Villain Story (duh).

The clue is in the title of the duology, it’s all about villains. Who doesn’t love a good villain? This for one contains some great complex, yet sociopathic characters that are just amazing. It gets boring rooting for the good guys all the time, change it up; read about morally grey anti-heroes instead. SO MUCH FUN.

2) Best friends to enemies

Probably the best trope ever, especially when executed well. And it is executed absolutely brilliantly in these books. Right off the bat, you know Victor and Eli were best friends and now enemies and it makes you dying to know how they end up this way.
Also, kinda reminds me of the Charles/Eric relationship in X-men and that’s not the only X-Men similarity…

3) X-Men-like powers

The people who have powers in this world are known as; ExtraOrdinary. They’re basically like X-Men and it’s pretty damn cool. The way they get their powers and what determines them is so interesting to learn about throughout the novels.  Just like X-Men, it makes me envious of their powers?? Why can’t powers exist? *sigh*

4) Weirdly relatable characters

I am no sociopathic killer with superpowers, yet I found Victor (and some of the other characters) weirdly relatable, easy to understand and super likeable. They do questionable things, I won’t lie, but I completely root for them.

5) Badass Ladies.

Sydney is a cool ass character from the beginning, I love her, she’s one of my favourites. But the second book, Vengeful, introduces some more badass ladies such as Marcella and Jude. Marcella is definitely a strong woman character, I love her revenge arc, it was such a joy to read. It’s nice to see a woman ‘villain’.

If none of that convinces you to immediately go out and buy these books; just look at the covers. They’re bloody gorgeous.

Top 5 Books I Read This Summer!

top5-summer

All the books I have read over the summer are discussed in my wrap-ups:
June Wrap Up
July Wrap Up
August Wrap Up

Usually, with this type of post, I would usually pick from my 4.5-5 Star reads. I realised when going back through my Goodreads to find books for this list, that the only 4.5-5 Star reads I had this summer were rereads! *insert shocked face emoji*
I don’t include rereads in seasonally favourites as I already knew I would love them – hence the reread. All of the books on this list are picked from the books I gave 4 Stars.

1) Catwoman Soulstealer by Sarah J Mass

Image result for catwoman soulstealer sarah j maasI went into this book not knowing whether I’d like it or not. I’m not the biggest DC Comics fan (Definitely more of a Marvel girl) and I didn’t know anything about Catwoman but it was SJM so obviously I picked it up. It really surprised me, I really enjoyed it and I devoured it.

2) Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Uprooted by the same author, so I was hesitant about going in. The premise sounded really interesting, I was offered it for review and couldn’t say no. I ended up really liking it, it was slower than what I would normally go for but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I adored the world and the magic, I thought it was a really interesting read! I also think it’d be better to read in the winter since it is set during the winter and it’s snowy.

3) Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

I absolutely loved Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, so when I heard a Sci-Fi retelling was being published how could I not pick it up!? Two of my favourite things but it sounds like a strange combination. This definitely exceeded all my expectations completely. It was such a fun, interesting read.

4) Still Me by Jojo Moyes

This is probably the most surprising book on the list. I love Me Before You, it’s one of my favourite books, the sequel, After You, not so much. After hating that book I really wasn’t hopeful for another sequel but I was wrong. This was dramatically better than After You and I really enjoyed it. Do I think Me Before You needed sequels? No. But this was an enjoyable story.

5) The Gilded King by Josie Jaffrey

I was offered this for review by the author, I didn’t really know much about it going in and didn’t have any expectations. The premise sounded interesting, it was dystopian/paranormal so I thought why not. It turned out to be a vampire book, which I would never normally read but it was really good! Had such an interesting plot and world and I cannot wait for the sequel!

Favourites I’d Like to Revisit| Top 5 Wednesday

top5weds

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This weeks topic is; Favourites You’d Like to Revisit

This is going to be a mix of books and TV shows!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
(And basically all of Rick Riordan’s books)percy-jackson

I read the Percy Jackson series back in 2015 and I loved it, I really want to revisit this world and the characters. I love Rick Riordan’s writing and humour and I know I’ll fall in love with this series all over again.

The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
mistborn
Despite only reading this for the first time last year, I miss this world and the characters. These books quickly became my favourites straight away and I just want to forever reread them. Apparently, I like having my soul ripped from my body.

A Song of Ice and Fire Series by George RR Martin
985870_fotor_collage_fotor
I read the whole series back in 2013/2014 and I loved it, I have been wanting to reread them for forever. I did reread A Game of Thrones last year but never got around to the rest.
Which brings me to the next one:

Game of Thrones
game-of-thrones-logo-i21034
I really want to go back to the beginning and watch it all over again. After reading the books, the later seasons just started to annoy me so I want to revisit them all and see how I feel now!

Teen Wolf (Tv series)

Okay, I freaking love this show. It’s so underrated, in my opinion, and I was so upset when it ended last year. I want to go back and watch it all over again, just for nostalgia. Plus Dylan O’Brien on my screen again? Yes, please.
