Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Mother Figures
(Apparently, it’s Mother’s Day in the US this week?)

1) Maura Sargent (+ basically all the ladies at 300 Fox Way)
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

These ladies are AWESOME.
Psychic trio. Weird and cool.
Imagine growing up in this household?! It’d be so much fun!

2) Sally Jackson
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

I love Sally! What a babe. She seems like such a cool, chill mum!

3) Cersei Lannister
ASOIAF/GoT

A complete bitch Cersei maybe, but she loves her children. I admire that about her, at least. (She’s also a super interesting character)

4) Ferius Parfax
Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

She’s more of a mentor to Kellen but I’m going to include her anyway. They definitely become like family and she cares for Kellen like a parent. It’s such a lovely relationship!

5) Issa
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I love Issa and Karou’s relationship! It’s so adorable. I love how all the Chimaera raised Karou and they have a weird but lovely family!
Issa is a great mother figure to Karou. So adorable!

Audiobook Review: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Synopsis:
Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling instalment of the best-selling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison — even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life.

When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

This is the second book in The Lunar Chronicles, there will be spoilers for the first book Cinder. Review for Cinder here. (Spoiler Free)

Plot:
After the ending of Cinder, I was dying to know what happens. Luckily, this audiobook was available from my library within a few days.
I am officially obsessed with this series.

The plot is well paced and addictive! I am hooked.
In this book, we continue to follow Cinder and Kai’s stories with the addition to some new characters whose story intertwines.

Unlike the first book, I didn’t find this book to be predictable. The writing has improved so much, not that it was ever bad, but you can see the development. The plot twists/turns were good and engaging. I was constantly wanting to keep listening.

The characters are all so interesting and engaging. I love all the new characters (+ ships!!).

Characters:
Cinder: Still love Cinder. She’s such a great character and it was easy to get invested and attached to her. I love her development throughout the books and I am loving reading her journey.

Kai: Aww Kai! I love him. I feel for him.
I still loved following his story, even though Cinder isn’t really part of it, but still kinda is?
I miss his interaction with Cinder and I realllllly hope they get reunited at some point.

Scarlet: I liked the addition of Scarlet. I didn’t manage to predict how her story would end up linking with Cinder’s, which was nice. I liked her as a character, I really felt for her as her Grandmother disappeared. Her chapters were really entertaining and I was instantly invested in her story. I didn’t know at first whether I was going to like the introduction of a new POV character, as I was so invested in Cinder, but I was wrong. I really liked Scarlet!

Thorne: I freaking love Thorne!! I love that he’s cocky, arrogant and self-loving. He adds some comic relief to the story. I loved his interaction with Cinder, they clash and are so vastly different. Plus, he’s definitely a secret sweetheart!

Wolf: I like Wolf. He was a mysterious character, I always sensed something weird about him. No spoilers. He’s an interesting character, I like his interactions with Scarlet.

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Current Reads + March TBR 2019

Hey Guys!
Thought I’d update on my reading. I don’t usually do posts like this but I definitely think I should do more! I never do TBR posts usually, due to the fact I feel pressured into reading those books and I’m a huge mood reader. I usually don’t pick my book until I need it.
However, this month I have a few I definitely want to pick up!

I’m currently reading/listening to three books!

Currently listening to:

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Cress by Marissa Meyer

Currently Reading:

The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins
(This is for a class at uni)

867638

Onto what else I want (+have) to read this month!

For uni I have to read:

  • Mrs Warren’s Profession by Bernard Shaw (play)
  • A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Wolf
  • A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry (play)
  • The Bloody Chamber and other stories by Angela Carter
  • The Zoo Story by Edward Albee (play)

Yikes! Wish me luck…

Books for pleasure:

  • The Near Witch by V.E Schwab – I going to V.E Schwab’s book signing on Monday (SO EXCITED) So, I’m trying to read as many as her books as I can. (Plus, I was sent The Near Witch for review so I need to get on that asap!)
  • Winter by Marissa Meyer  (audiobook)- Once I finish Cress I know I’ll want to pick this up straight away. I am LOVING this series. Hopefully, the audiobook will be available when I’m done with Cress. (Fingers crossed!) This last audiobook is pretty damn long, so I don’t know if it’ll be in my March wrap up.

Considering I’ve been in a slump for months now, this TBR is quite ambitious.  Hopefully, I won’t struggle too much! Audiobooks have been my saviour, I am loving them at the moment. So convenient for me when travelling/doing uni work.

Let me know what you’re reading/planning to read, I’d love to know!

Love Interests I Would Ditch!| Top 5 Wednesday

t5ww
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Love Interests I Would Have Broken Up With

*Warning* There WILL be Spoilers. No major plot spoiler will be included but if you count relationship/love interests to be spoiler avoid*

Aedion – Throne of Glass

Image result for aedion lysandraI was okay with Lysandra + Aedion, prior to Kingdom of Ash. I was never a diehard fan of Aedion or Lysandra so them being shipped together was just meh for me. However, after reading the final book in the series, I have some strong opinion about Aedion. He’s awful and such an ass to Lysandra. I refuse to believe she’d forgive him. Nope, nope, NOPE! Treated her like trash and it is unforgivable, in my opinion

Manon – Throne of Glass
Image result for manon blackbeak

Manon and Dorian have a weird relationship. It’s not one I’ve ever been able to get behind. I hated Manon up until the last book, where she became  a better person and more tolerable. However, I will never ship her with my baby Dorian and I honestly don’t understand them together?? They’re SO mismatched…

Cal – Red Queen

Image result for cal red queen
Oh my god, this dude. Why Mare kept going back to him, I’ll never know. I got so fed up of this series I never read the last book. I honestly do not care but Mare should’ve dumped Cal from the beginning! #TeamMaven

Literally, everyone from Wuthering Heights

Image result for wuthering heights emily bronte

Every love interest in this book is toxic and awful. I honestly don’t understand any of them, I’d ditched them all. They’re all terrible people and not even in a likeable way.

Paul – A Thousand Pieces of You

17234658I don’t like Paul. I cannot go into this without spoiling the plot. Even so, there isn’t much basis for why I don’t like Paul. I simply do not take to him. There’s a love-triangle kinda thing going on and I preferred the other guy, Theo.
