The Reading Slump Continues & The Queen of Nothing| WWW Wednesday 08/07/20

WWW-Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

Hope you’re all well and staying safe.

I’ve been in and out of a reading slump since May, it’s been super annoying.
I’m mostly consuming audiobooks these days, which isn’t a bad thing. I do hope to read more physical books this month!

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking on a World of Words.  It’s a super simple meme, you just answered the three W questions.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently reading:

Nothing.
I’m currently between books!

Recently Finished:

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black (audiobook)

The Queen of Nothing Audiobook by Holly Black - 9781549150173 ...

I binge listened to this audiobook.
After disliking The Wicked King a lot, I didn’t think I’d pick this one up. Then I decided I actually wanted to finish this series and give this last one ago. I’m very glad I did! I enjoyed it very much, I think it may even be my favourite in the series.
I listened to the whole book in one day! I was addicted.
I played Animal Crossing and listened to this and I had a grand time!

(Review coming soon)

Rating: 4 Stars

My next audiobook is:
Black Brother, Black Brother by Jewell Parker Rhodes

My library’s audiobook app has had an influx of POC books over the last week-ish, which is awesome! This one was available right away so I decided to grab it.
It’s super short (4.5) so this will probably be another one day read!

As for physical books, I really want to get to
The Burning White by Brent Weeks

The Burning White: Book Five of Lightbringer: Amazon.co.uk: Weeks ...

I haven’t been in the mood for fantasy (SHOCK) in a while but I think I’m finally ready to dive back in. I have been waiting to read this book for ages!! It’s the final in the Lightbringer series and I’m worried! It’s also over 900 pages, it’s a big boy.
I’m hoping this will not put me more into a slump and maybe get me back into fantasy! I miss fantasy but I cannot read it when I’m in a slump for some reason.

Oh. My. God. This. Book.
I loved everything about this book! I am so glad I requested it from NetGalley, it is now one of my favourites! It was just perfection. I don’t have a bad thing to say about it.

Full review here with all my thoughts!

Currently Reading:

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City): Amazon.co.uk: Maas ...

Finally, I am reading one of my most anticipated reads! I didn’t want to read it when it came out as I was still in uni and didn’t want the stress of the semester to hinder my enjoyment. I’m not far in yet but it’s already broken my heart??? Is this book going to kill me?

Reading Next:

I have no idea what I’m going to read next, I have so many options! I am freed to read to my heart is content. Here are some I am considering:

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

*The Raven and The Dove by Kaitlyn Davis

*The Love Square by Laura Jane Williams

(Guess we’ll have to wait and see which I pick, it entirely depends on my mood and how much HOEAB destroys me)

Ali Smith has BEAUTIFUL writing. I highly recommend her books if you like a pretty, lyrical writing style. I’ve read two of her books and will definitely pick up more!

The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne

This is a sci-fi retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, which I haven’t read (yet) but I am a fan of Austen! I also loved Alexa Donne’s first book, I am hopeful this will be great too.
So far I’m intrigued, I had to put this down for a few weeks due to being overloaded with uni reading and work. I’m excited to jump back in!

I’m reading this for uni and I’m switching between reading and audiobook, just to make things quicker. It’s a pretty big book! Hoping I’ll enjoy it as much as Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice.

I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of this! (Thank you Jamie-Lee at Tor UK)
I’ve never read any Robert Jordan, I’d really like to read the Wheel of Time series but it’s just so big and the books are all big, I just don’t have time right now. I thought I’d start with this since it’s small and so I can try out his writing without too much commitment.

It took so long to get through but I am finally done. (also kinda disappointed more in my review here)

Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig (Audiobook)

Such an amazing read, great for those with mental health problems (mainly depression + anxiety). This book really hit home with me and I recommend it to everyone. Even those without depression and anxiety because it could help put into words how people with those illnesses feel and live.
The book is read by the author himself, which makes it so much more personal.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (reread)

I have to read this for class, this is a reread for me and I’m actually looking forward to seeing what I get from it this time around + studying it.
I’m probably going to switch back and forth audiobook and physical for this.

These medieval ballads are as thrilling as the sound and very difficult to read. What have I signed up for?! Sadly, I can’t count these on Goodreads but I still read them and I want that to be noted! (LOL)

A Very Austen WWW Wednesday | 9/10/2019

WWW-Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

This week’s post is very Austen centred. I have been mainly Jay Kristoff focused in the last god knows how many WWW Wednesday’s I’m glad to be featuring something else!
I started my second year of university last week and this semester I’m doing a whole module on Jane Austen. There’s going to be an abundance of her appearing over the next month as I read most of her books.

If you didn’t know already, WWW Wednesday is hosted on Taking on a World of Words. It’s a super simple meme, you just answered the three W questions.

Teenage Writings by Jane Austen

This was odd. It was quite a drag to read but it was for uni so I had to read it to be able to study it. It’s not something I ever would’ve picked up for fun.

Currently Reading:

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff (still)

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Reading Next:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This will be a reread for me, I read this last year, I think. I’m excited to revist this book and study it in detail!

I am also want to pick up: Saga Vol 3 by Brian K. Vaughan + Fiona Staples

Image result for saga vol 3
I have a loooot of reading for class, hence why I haven’t finished Darkdawn yet, so I thought a graphic novel would be a good idea to pick up next. It’s quick and easy to read and I have been dying to continue this series: It’s incredible!
The first two are on *Kindle Unlimited, worth signing up for a trial purely for them!

Sorry I’ve been SO inactive. Having no wifi is horrendous in general but especially as a blogger! I’m going to try and schedule as many posts as I can as I start uni soon.
But I’m back with another WWW Wednesday!

I finally finished Godsgrave! I can get to the final book at last and complete the series!!
I am in such a bad reading slump. These books are taking me ages to get through but I’m enjoying them regardless. Godsgrave was better than Nevernight – which started too slow for my liking. This book was faster paced and more exciting. I LOVED the setting so much, it was so cool to experience.
Full review coming soon!

The cliffhanger Godsgrave ended on was BRUTAL. I am so glad this book was waiting next to me. I IMMEDIATELY picked up this book after Godsgrave. I HAD to know what happened next. I am hoping my reading slump has finally gone since I’m actually excited about reading again. Will Darkdawn beat Godsgrave?! I’m dying to find out how it all ends. Hopefully, I won’t be disappointed.

Uni starts next week so I need to get a move on with my required reading!
I’m doing a whole lot of Jane Austen this semester so she will be appearing in a lot of WWW Wednesdays/Wrap up and potentially reviews!
I’ll probably be switching between audiobook and physical book for this.
PS. How beautiful is this edition of S&S?! All my JA books are the Arcturus editions – they are seriously beautiful.
