This week’s topic is: SFF BFFS

5) Scott and Stiles
(Teen Wolf)

I hardly ever mention TV shows on here, so I thought I’d throw in one of my fave friendships from a TV. Teen Wolf!! One of my favourite shows. I’m currently rewatching the whole show, which is why this sprang to mind instantly.
The best part of the show: Scott and Stiles. I bloody adore their friendship that is so close they’re basically brothers. It’s such a lovely genuine friendship, they bounce off each other and always look out for each other. I miss this show!!

4) Dorian, Chaol + Celaena/Aelin
(Throne of Glass)
Image result for Dorian, chaol and aelin

I love the ToG series, one of the best parts of the beginning of the series is Dorian, Chaol and Celaena. I love the OG ToG gang. It’s what I missed most in the later books was their interaction. The reunion in KoA is beautiful though. That book made me full on sob so many times!

3) Kelsier and his crew
(Mistborn)

Image result for kelsier and crewI love the friendships in Mistborn.
I love Kelsier and his crew! I love it when Kelsier takes Vin in and makes her part of his crew. Their friendship is so lovely! I really want to reread the books so I can see the gang again. (And have my heart ripped out again, evidently)

2) Cinder + The gang
(The Lunar Chronicles)
Image result for the lunar chronicles fanart
A recent favourite of mine, after reading The Lunar Chronicles this year I just had include the whole gang! I love their friendship and interactions. I particularly love Thorne and Cinder, I love their banter. Basically, Thorne with anyone, he’s hilarious and my fave!

1) Hiccup and Toothless
(How To Train Your Dragon)
Image result for hiccup and toothless gif
Is there anything more beautiful than friendship between human/pet?! Especially dragons! I bloody adore this film series, so sad it ended. I will forever love Hiccup and Toothless, what a beautiful friendship. *sheds a tear*

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Mother Figures
(Apparently, it’s Mother’s Day in the US this week?)

1) Maura Sargent (+ basically all the ladies at 300 Fox Way)
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Image result for maura sargent

These ladies are AWESOME.
Psychic trio. Weird and cool.
Imagine growing up in this household?! It’d be so much fun!

2) Sally Jackson
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Image result for sally jackson from percy jackson

I love Sally! What a babe. She seems like such a cool, chill mum!

3) Cersei Lannister
ASOIAF/GoT

Image result for cersei lannister gif

A complete bitch Cersei maybe, but she loves her children. I admire that about her, at least. (She’s also a super interesting character)

4) Ferius Parfax
Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

Image result for ferius parfax

She’s more of a mentor to Kellen but I’m going to include her anyway. They definitely become like family and she cares for Kellen like a parent. It’s such a lovely relationship!

5) Issa
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Image result for issa daughter of smoke and bone

I love Issa and Karou’s relationship! It’s so adorable. I love how all the Chimaera raised Karou and they have a weird but lovely family!
Issa is a great mother figure to Karou. So adorable!

Bookish Things I Changed My Mind About| Top 5 Wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Bookish Things I’ve Changed My Mind About

1) Audiobooks

Image result for headphone clipart

I was never into audiobooks and never thought I would be. I started listening to them around 2 years ago and still didn’t think it’d be a regular thing for me. However, I’ve had a change of heart, lately, I’ve been mostly consuming my books in audio form. It’s so convenient! I used to struggle to focus on the story while listening, I think it’s definitely something you get used to/ learn to do over time.

2)  Book Series: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Image result for red queen book

I initially liked this series. I read the first book and liked it, read the second and like it, though less than the first. I got to book three and I was immensely bored. I don’t even know how I managed to finish it. I did plan on reading the final book, to complete the series but I lost interest. I now have no plans to pick up the last book because I literally couldn’t care less about the story or the characters.

3) Book Series: The Lunar Chronicles

Image result for the lunar chronicles

I wanted to read this series years ago when it was really hyped it. I put it off for years and years and basically thought I’m never going to read these books. However, Cinder became available at my library on audiobook and I decided to give it ago. I’m so glad I did! It’s now one of my favourite series and I regret putting it off for so long! To think I wasn’t even going to read it…

4) Character: Aedion from Throne of Glass
**SPOILERS from Kingdom of Ash**
Image result for aedion

When Aedion was first introduced I didn’t like or hate him. I was pretty neutral; I didn’t care enough to have an opinion. After reading KoA, I can say I now have strong feelings of hatred for this character. He was awful. He’s an ass throughout the entire novel and treated Lysandra like crap. He definitely didn’t deserve to marry her in the end, the things he said/did were unforgivable, in my opinion.
LYSANDRA DESERVED BETTER.

5) Genre: Dystopian

Image result for dystopian

Dystopian was never a genre I gravitated towards. I’ve never read/seen The Hunger Games and I’m not the biggest fan of The Maze Runner. There was a lot of Dystopian films/books going on around that time and I was kinda sick of it. However, after reading adult-dystopian like The Handmaid’s Tale, I’ve grown to like the genre more. I plan on picking up some more YA Dystopian, to see if I can get into that too, but adult dystopian is definitely better! (So far)

Rainy Day Reads | Top 5 Wednesday

t5ww-e1556560584673.png

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Rainy Day Reads

1) Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

Image result for red sister uk

Fantasy is my go-to genre, whatever the weather/time of year, but I think Red Sister would be the perfect rainy day read. I don’t know why but I imagined this world to be quite dark and grey – not sure if that’s actually correct but that’s the impression I got.

Badass, assassin nuns and a kinda magic-school setting; you need this in your life.

2) Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Image result for vicious new coverThis is THE perfect rainy day read. It’s dark, all about morally grey characters and the perfect friends-to-enemies plot line. It’s like a darker x-men story. It’s beyond cool.

3)  Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

Image result for elantris book

Would it really be a recommendations list without some Brandon Sanderson?! I always find a way to put his books on any list.

Elantris was a radiant, magical city once before magic failed, now it’s dull, grey and lifeless. I think this would make a great rainy day read, this is a fantasy but it’s not action based so it can be quite slow. It is very interesting and intriguing; I’ve read this twice and I still love the plot and characters!

4) Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Image result for cinder by marissa meyer

If you want something fun yet exciting, this is the one for you. It’s such a great book, fast to get through and the rest of the series is amazing too!
It’s a sci-fi Cinderella retelling with cyborgs and a dystopian world – what more do you want?

5) Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Image result for simon vs the homosapien agenda
Thought I should probably include something contemporary too. If you’re looking for something that’ll cheer you up, this is the one! I read this in one sitting. It’s such a cute book and I was smiling constantly throughout. This would be such a nice book to read if you need something happy.

Comment below and recommend me a rainy day read!

Favourite Jokesters| Top 5 Wednesday

t5ww
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Favourite Jokesters

Basically, here’s a list of the funniest characters I love.

1) Captain Carswell Thorne aka Thorne – The Lunar Chronicles

Finally, I read The Lunar Chronicles this year, (well listened) and I bloody adored every single book. One of the highlights for me was Thorne. I found him SO funny. I was literally laughing out loud to his comments in public. I must’ve looked like a crazy person laughing to myself on the train!
I love Thorne. He’s cocky and snarky but a good guy deep down.

2) Rhysand – ACOTAR by Sarah J Maas

Image result for rhysand

Everyone’s favourite High Lord. I think Rhys is super funny (and adorable). I love his banter with Feyre and the Inner Circle. Relationship/Friendship goals!

3) Ferius Parfax – Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

Image result for ferius parfax

Ferius is bloody hilarious! She’s one of my faves in the Spellslinger, she’s just amazing.
Her jokes and attitude are absolutely hilarious. Spellslinger, in general, is super funny, one of the only books to make me laugh out loud.

4) Deadpool

Image result for deadpool gif

Of course, I had to include one of my favourite Marvel characters; Deadpool.
Crude as he may be, he’s bloody hilarious. Ryan Reynolds was born to play him and the films are just so good.

5) Han Solo – Star Wars

Image result for funny han solo gif

And finally,  of course, I had to mention someone from Star Wars. Han is just too funny not to mention. I love the humour between the whole gang in the originals but Han takes the cake for me. He’s beyond funny.

Favourite Collectables on My Bookshelf| Top 5 Wednesday

t5ww
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Favourite Collectibles on Bookshelf

1) Bookmarks

An essential staple for every reader, a good bookmark! Before Bookstagram/Blogging I used to use any old thing as a bookmark (still do sometimes) and now I like bookmarks for their aesthetic too!

2) Collectible/ Special Edition Books

Who doesn’t love a good collectors/special edition book?! Not only are they exclusive but they’re freaking stunning.  I am obsessed with getting my hands on as many as possible, it is such a bad habit for my bank account. No regrets.

3) Pins

I don’t have many pins but I totally want to start collecting more!
I have seen a few people on Bookstagram with pin flag/banner things(?) and they look so cute hanging on the shelves! That’s the goal for me, I’d love to display mine on my shelves but I’d also love to rock a denim jacket with a few on from time to time.

4) Figures + Funko Pops!

I adore collecting figures and Funko Pops! They’re one of my favourite things to get as gifts, which is where the majority of mine came from. Though I don’t tend to display my Funko Pops on my bookshelf with my books, as I keep them in the boxes, I do stack them on top of my small bookshelf.
I do have my Funko Wobblers out of the box and on display though. (Pictured)

5) Literally anything Star Wars

Above is how my shelves used to look and I loved it. But due to my book hoarcing habit, I had to start putting other books on those shelves too. *sigh*

Also, got this cute little planter for Christmas, which is a recent addition to my bookshelf! (Which I adore)

Comment some things you collect on your bookshelf, I’d love to know!

Books I Thought I’d Hate| Top 5 Wednesday

t5ww
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme, GoodReads group here with all the topics + discussion!
This week’s topic is: Books You Thought You’d Hate But Ended Up Loving
I changed it a little, I don’t tend to pick up books I think I’m going to hate…

1) Throne of Glass Series

2018-10-27 02.24.30 1.jpg

I read ACOTAR first. Everyone said it was SJM’s best series out of the two, so I didn’t think I was going to like ToG all the that much. I ended up loving it, I think I actually prefer it over ACOTAR overall.

2) The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

IMG_20180604_215432_749.jpg

I found this book super slow in the beginning, I was failing to see the hype. By the second half, I was totally into it and loving it. Upon rereading I love the whole book.

3) Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Image result for cinder by marissa meyer
I put off reading this for years, taking it on and off my GoodReads all the time. I wasn’t really gripped by the sci-fi retelling at first. But, I recently took the plunge, as the audiobook became available at my library and BOY am I glad. It’s now one of my favourite series of all time. It’s bloody brilliant.

4) The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

_20180328_140954.JPG

I had no idea what to expect going into this. It was being hyped up everywhere, but I’m not the biggest mystery/thriller/crime/whatever fan. Like at all. But it was available at my library and I didn’t have another audiobook at the time so I just went for it. I ended up loving it. It blew my mind. Definitely lives up to the hype!

5) Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

Image result for far from the madding crowd cover

This was required reading for a module at uni. I’d previously read Tess of the D’Ubervilles, which I didn’t like at all. It was beyond boring. I expected to feel the same way about FFTMC but I ended up loving it?! Such a nice surprise!
