December was the worst reading month for me of the year. I don’t know what happened. I assumed I’d be doing more reading after the semester finished but that didn’t happen. I was in a major reading slump, nothing appealed to me, I couldn’t make it through anything. Finals took over my life, plus Christmas shopping, Christmas in general??! So time-consuming.
This post is going up way later than I intended but I’ve been super ill since New Year’s Eve. What a start to the year!
Happy New Year Everyone 🙂
The first book I read in December was Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, this was required reading for a class.
I have mixed/mostly negative views on this. It’s a Jane Eyre retelling/backstory for the mad wife.
It was pretty boring and unnecessary; the racial politics and culture in it were interesting to read but ‘Bertha’ was just meh.
The next book I read was Girl meets boy by Ali Smith, this was also require reading for a class. I actually enjoyed this one, it was super quick and easy to read. Ali Smith’s writing style is a bit odd at first but it’s interesting.
I don’t tend to rate required reads but I’d give this 3.5 Stars.
The only book I finished for pleasure was; Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I was hoping this would get rid of my reading slump. (This was a reread) But, alas, the slump continued.
Rating 4 Stars!
Until next time,
